Initially, The Trust funded a set of books which made up a reading scheme to be used with the young teenagers at the school. The aim was to introduce relevant teenage topics to pupils who had difficulties reading books normally targeting this age group. There were workbooks and activity booklets which were used alongside the main reading books. Each pupil’s achievements were recorded and monitored over a period of time. The teachers at Ashmount finally concluded, after this long-term monitoring (and after students had read sections of the books to two of the Trustees and talked to us about the content) that the project had been a great success.
